Adultery

This study is pretty plain and I imagine that if you are reading this one you have either committed adultery, thought about it, or been a victim of it. This subject is huge in our society today. It is the leading cause of divorce and just recently we see that there was a hacker that went onto a website and exposed over 37 million people who signed up on a website to commit adultery. This is a real shame to our society and people are doing it without even thinking about the consequences of their sin. People today honestly think that they are not going to get caught and if they do, it is not that big of a deal. They do not think about how their sin affects a least 4 to 5 people in the least. If it is two married people committing adultery with each other and each of them has 3 children, then we have two spouses that it hurts and six children. Plus all the other relatives and friends that get affected. I hope that the LORD gives you wisdom and understanding about this subject and convicts your heart if you are committing this sin right now. And if you are a victim of adultery, remember God blesses right decision making. You are not accountable for your spouses bad decisions and do not believe the lies that they try and condemn you with! They are guilty of making the wrong decisions and now they are trying to justify their sins. May God Bless You and give you a heart to be loyal and faithful in this perverted society that we live in!!!

Matthew 5:27-30          Side Note: This was Jesus speaking.

“You have heard that the law of Moses says, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart. So if your eye – even if it your good eye – causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your hand – even if it is your stronger hand – causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

Commentary: Jesus was speaking about the act of adultery. That it is a matter of the heart, more than just the sexual physical act. Jesus was explaining that you need to do whatever it takes to keep your body into subjection with your heart. He does not actually expect you to literally cut off body parts, but is explaining that if you have an issue with lets say pornography and you use a computer to watch it, then maybe you should get rid of your computer or cut off the internet, for example.

Matthew 5:31-32          Side Note: This was Jesus speaking.

“You have heard that the law of Moses says, ‘A man can divorce his wife by merely giving her a letter of divorce.’ But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery. And anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

Commentary: Jesus was addressing His view on adultery. He was basically saying, that if a man divorces his wife, without the wife being unfaithful, that the man causes his wife to commit adultery. This also teaches that if the spouse has been unfaithful that the other spouse has the right for divorce, they also have the right for reconciliation unless the other person gets married again. And anyone who marries that woman is committing adultery. Once the act of adultery has been committed, the marriage covenant has been broken. The LORD can repair this relationship, but it takes a real commitment from the married couple. Forgiveness and repentance is crucial in order to repair the relationship.

Job 24:15

The adulterer waits for the twilight, for he says, ‘No one will see me then.’ He masks his face so no one will know him.

Commentary: Men try to hide their sins from the LORD, but the LORD sees all that a man does or even thinks, God knows his motives and his intentions. God sees all that a man does and the man who tempts the LORD is an utter fool, for God might give grace at first, then maybe even mercy, but then comes judgment.

Proverbs 2:14-16

To deliver you from the immoral woman, From the seductress who flatters with her words, Who forsakes the companion of her youth, And forgets the covenant of her God. For her house leads down to death, And her paths to the dead; None who go to her return, Nor do they regain the paths of life. (NKJV)

Commentary: The seductress or seducter flatters with their words, they forsake their companion of their youth and forget about their marriage covenant that they did before God Himself. These people are flighty and have a hard time committing to anyone, for they are always looking to their future and are only loyal to themselves. In Scripture it is taught that they have the Spirit of Whoredom, which means they continuously chase their lovers, and use their other lovers provisions to do the chasing. I would suggest to read the book of Hosea in the Bible and learn how Hosea had to deal with Gomer his adulteress wife. This book is a good look at the heartache that adultery causes in the family unit and shows us how loyal God is to us who have committed this sin, to help through our issues in life. That we can repent and God can change us.

Proverbs 6:24-26

To keep you from the evil woman, From the flattering tongue of a seductress. Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, Nor let her allure you with her eyelids. For by means of a harlot A man is reduced to a crust of bread; And an adulteress will prey upon his precious life. (NKJV)

Commentary: This verse proves that the adulterer is a hunter searching for its prey, the victim of its lusts. They are cold and calculated, their motives and intentions are hidden from its prey until its very life is taken.

Proverbs 7:4-27

Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” And call understanding your nearest kin, That they may keep you from the immoral woman, From the seductress who flatters with her words. For at the window of my house I looked through my lattice, And saw among the simple, I perceived among the youths, A young man devoid of understanding, Passing along the street near her corner; And he took the path to her house In the twilight, in the evening, In the black and dark night. And there a woman met him, With the attire of a harlot, and a crafty heart. She was loud and rebellious, Her feet would not stay at home. At times she was outside, at times in the open square, Lurking at every corner. So she caught him and kissed him; With an impudent face she said to him: “I have peace offerings with me; Today I have paid my vows. So I came out to meet you, Diligently to seek your face, And I have found you. I have spread my bed with tapestry, Colored coverings of Egyptian linen. I have perfumed my bed With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. Come, let us take our fill of love until morning; Let us delight ourselves with love. For my husband is not at home; He has gone on a long journey; He has taken a bag of money with him, And will come home on the appointed day.” With her enticing speech she caused him to yield, With her flattering lips she seduced him. Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks, Till an arrow struck his liver. As a bird hastens to the snare, He did not know it would cost his life. Now therefore, listen to me, my children; Pay attention to the words of my mouth: Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, Do not stray into her paths; For she has cast down many wounded, And all who were slain by her were strong men. Her house is the way to hell, Descending to the chambers of death. (NKJV)

Commentary: In this illustration we see that the seductress is looking for a victim, someone who is simple minded lacking understanding. She flatters and entices with her speech, causing him to yield to the temptation. But as we can tell it costs him his life. The warning is not to even go near her paths!!!

Proverbs 30:20

This is the way of an adulterous woman: She eats and wipes her mouth, And says, “I have done no wickedness.” (NKJV)

Commentary: The adulterous is callous and tries to justify their sin in their own mind as if they have done nothing wrong. Scripture teaches us that sin causes the conscience to become more and more damaged the more that we sin. In the King James Version it actually says that the conscience becomes seared shut. Which means that it is burned and scarred.

Proverbs 22:14

The mouth of an immoral woman is a deep pit; He who is abhorred by the LORD will fall there. (NKJV)

Commentary: This verse really explains what every man needs to know. That if you are not pleasing the LORD that you can fall into this pit. For the verse states that whoever is not pleasing to the LORD, will fall into this pit. Let me repeat this again, if you are not pleasing the LORD you have the potential to fall into this pit, to fall for the seductress. But also remember if you are pleasing the LORD, that He protects you from falling into this pit. This is real assuring to me, for I myself have fallen into this pit prior to becoming a Christian and it did cost me everything that I had, just as the Scriptures teach.

Proverbs 6:32-35

Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; He who does so destroys his own soul. Wounds and dishonor he will get, And his reproach will not be wiped away. For jealousy is a husband’s fury; Therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance. He will accept no recompense, Nor will he be appeased though you give many gifts. (NKJV)

Commentary: These verses speak for themselves, there are prices to pay for our sin!!!
