Desire is not a bad attribute to have, it is actually quite a good thing according to Scripture unless you are lazy or a man of appetites. There is a difference between desire and coveting. Desire is to wish or long for something. Let’s say you wanted to be married, this is not bad, but if you wish to be married to your neighbor’s wife, this is bad. For this would be coveting your neighbor’s wife and this is breaking the tenth commandment. As you can see throughout this study the righteous will have their desires granted, but the lazy man and the wicked man will not. To desire wisdom is a great attribute and God will grant this to you if you desire it above all else. If a man isolates himself, he obviously seeks his own desire and I am sure you know a few people like this. I know that I do. This one if for the ladies, in Proverbs 19:22 it says, that what is desired in a man is kindness. Now as I have gotten older, I can tell you from a man’s point of view, this is exactly what I look for in a woman also. Not if she is only kind to me, but to everyone else also. Proverbs 18:1

A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment.

Proverbs 8:11

For wisdom is better than rubies, And all the things that one may desire cannot be compared to her.

Proverbs 10:24

The fear of the wicked will come upon him, And the desire of the righteous will be granted.

Proverbs 11:23

The desire of the righteous is only good, But the expectation of the wicked is wrath.

Proverbs 13:12

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.

Proverbs 13:19

A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.

Proverbs 19:22

What is desired in a man is kindness, And a poor man is better than a liar.

Proverbs 21:10

The soul of the wicked desires evil; His neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.

Proverbs 21:20

There is desirable treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man squanders it.

The desire of the lazy man kills him, For his hands refuse to labor.

Proverbs 23:1-3

When you sit down to eat with a ruler, Consider carefully what is before you; And put a knife to your throat If you are a man given to appetite. Do not desire his delicacies, For they are deceptive food.

Proverbs 23:6-7

Do not eat the bread of a miser, Nor desire his delicacies; For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, But his heart is not with you.

Proverbs 24: 1

Do not be envious of evil men, Nor desire to be with them.

Proverbs 3:13-15

Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding; For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, and her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her.

Proverbs 13:4

The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing, But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.
