Flattery is an interesting word in our culture. I use to believe that flattery was a good thing until I read it in Scripture and realized that I was confusing flattery with compliments. You see, flattery is obviously a tool used by the Devil to seduce people into traps in order to take advantage of them. Now a compliment is a sincere way to tell someone that there is something special about them or their character. When I thought back about how I use to use flattery I realized that I was doing the Devil’s work. Now that I know the difference I do not use flattery at all anymore. Thank God!!! The last thing that I want to do is the Devil’s bidding. As you can see he uses it to seduce, to work ruin, and to set a trap for someone. Remember if someone is using flattery on you they do not have any good intention toward you, just some selfish motive or intention in their own heart for their own gain. And I hope that if you are using flattery in your life, that you stop doing it yourself, as you can see, God does not have anything good to say on the subject. With her enticing speech she caused him to yield, With her flattering lips she seduced him.

He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets; Therefore do not associate with one who flatters with his lips.

Proverbs 26:28

A lying tongue hates those who are crushed by it, And a flattering mouth works ruin.

He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward Than he who flatters with the tongue.

Proverbs 29:5

A man who flatters his neighbor Spreads a net for his feet.
