John Adams (Prayer Proclamation 1798)

“As the safety and prosperity of nations ultimately and essentially depend on the protection and the blessing of Almighty God, and the national acknowledgment of this truth is not only an indispensable duty which the people owe to Him, but a duty whose natural influence is favorable to the promotion of that morality and piety without which social happiness can not exist nor the blessings of a free government be enjoyed; and as this duty, at all times incumbent, is so especially in seasons of difficulty or of danger, when existing or threatening calamities, the just judgments of God against prevalent iniquity, are a loud call to repentance and reformation; and as the United States of America are at present placed in a hazardous and afflictive situation by the unfriendly disposition, conduct, and demands of a foreign power, evinced by repeated refusals to receive our messengers of reconciliation and peace, by depredations on our commerce, and the infliction of injuries on very many of our fellow-citizens while engaged in their lawful business on the seas – under these considerations it has appeared to me that the duty of imploring the mercy and benediction of Heaven on our country demands at this time a special attention from its inhabitants”

John Adams (Prayer Proclamation 1798) (Founding Father/Second President of the United States)

This prayer proclamation was given because the Muslims were attacking our merchant ships in the seas of the Middle east. These pirates were killing and stealing American shipments to the Middle East, then the Muslims decided to start holding people for ransom, then our delegates went to the Middle East and negotiated with the leaders and we paid tribute (Ransom money/extortion money) to them for the safety of our people who traded in the area. We did this until Thomas Jefferson became President and he went to Congress and told them if you build me a Navy that we would not be paying this extortion money any longer. So Congress approved our first Naval ships and we took them to the Middle East seas and fought against the Muslim pirates for over thirty years, and had such victory that the Muslims signed a peace treaty on the Shores of Tripoli. This is where we get our song for the Marine Core.

George Washington (Prayer Proclamation 1789)

“Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor – and Whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”

George Washington (Prayer Proclamation 1789) (Founding Father/First President of the United States)

Samuel Adams (Prayer Proclamation 1797)

“…speedily bringing on that holy and happy period when the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ may be everywhere established, and all the people willingly bow to the scepter of Him who is the Prince of Peace.”

Samuel Adams (Prayer Proclamation 1797)(Founding Father/”Father of the American Revolution”)

John Hancock (Prayer Proclamation 1791)

“And pray especially that universal happiness can be established in the world, and that all may bow to the scepter of our Lord Jesus Christ, and that the whole earth may be filled with His glory.”

John Hancock (Oct. 15, 1791/Prayer Proclamation)(Founding Father/Declaration of Independence)

Rev. Matthias Burnet (1803)

“Finally, ye… whose high prerogative it is to…invest in office and authority or to withhold them and in whose power it is to save or destroy your country, consider well the important trust…which God…[has] put into your hands. To God and posterity you are accountable for them…Let not your children have reason to curse you for giving up those rights and prostrating those institutions which your fathers delivered to you.”

Rev. Matthias Burnet

Thomas Jefferson (Clergyman)

“I observe in…[ the Virginia] Constitution an abridgment of a right…I do not approve. It is the incapacitation of a clergyman from being elected.”

Thomas Jefferson (Founding Father/Constitution)

Basically what this is saying, is that the people of Virginia at the time were putting together their own Constitution they were trying to keep deeply devoted religious people from being elected to positions in government. This straight contradicted what Thomas Jefferson believed about “Separation of Church and State”, he believed as explained to the Danbury Baptist members that the State had no right to invade your church. Which is now perverted by our current government to the exact opposite of its original intent. Americans had just left Europe where the government ran the church and after the Revolution the people were concerned that they might be susceptible to another invasion of their religious rights, and as you can see Thomas Jefferson seen that this is exactly what these politicians were trying to do with not wanting to let a pastor or preacher be elected to a governmental position.

Noah Webster (Education/School)

“This school should be kept by the most reputable and well informed man in the district. Here children should be taught the usual branches of learning; submission to superiors and to laws; the moral or social duties; the history and transactions of their own country; the principles of liberty and government. Here the rough manners of the wilderness should be softened, and the principles of virtue and good behavior inculcated. The virtues of men are of the more consequence to society than their abilities; and for this reason, the heart should be cultivated with more assiduity than the head.

Such a general system of education is neither impracticable nor difficult; and excepting the formation of a federal government that shall be efficient and permanent, it demands the first attention of American patriots. Until such a system shall be adopted and pursued; until the Statesman and Divine shall unite their efforts in forming the human mind, rather than in loping its excrescence, after it has been neglected; until Legislators discover that the only way to make good citizens and subjects, is to nourish them from infancy; and until parents shall be convinced that the worst of men are not the proper teachers to make the best; mankind cannot know to what a degree of perfection society and government may be carried. America affords the fairest opportunities for making the experiment, and opens the most encouraging prospect or success.”

Noah Webster (A Collection of Essays and Fugitiv Writings, 1790)

Noah Webster (Bible/School)

“In some countries, the common people are not permitted to read the Bible at all: In ours, it is as common as a newspaper, and in schools, is read with nearly the same degree of respect. Both these practices appear to be extremes. My wish is not to see the Bible excluded from schools, but to see it used as a system of religion and morality.”

Noah Webster (A Collection of Essays and Fugitiv Writings, 1790)
